If it was possible to improve the best ball in the market, then Titleist has done so with the 2005 Pro V1.
All the usual performance characteristics are still there, with great feel around the greens and spin when you need it.
The new version does feel a little firmer though and it certainly does spin less, which is ideal for the modern breed of high launching drivers.
The trajectory is noticeably lower which means better players who like the feel of the Pro V1 don't have to make the choice between feel and the lower spinning but firmer Pro V1x .
The only fly in the ointment was that the cover durability hasn't moved forward as it scuffed up a little during play, especially when we got the grooves out on pitches and bunker shots, but no more so than any of the competition.
Destined to be #1 in the market again and rightly so in our books.
