TaylorMade have announced details of their 2024 golf ball lineup, highlighted by updates to the popular TP5 and TP5x models which have achieved plenty of success on the professional tours in the last few years.

The brand say that the latest generation of the TP5 ball takes things to the next level thanks to a new Speed Wrapped Core which impacts sound, feel and performance to create both TaylorMade's fastest (TP5x) and softest feeling (TP5) tour balls yet.

Ever since it was first introduced in 2017, the TP5 and its 5-layer construction has evolved to enhance tee-to-green performance with new technologies to boost distance, wind stability and control around the green.

The Speed Wrapped Core is the first of its kind for golf balls, and is said to produce a softer sound with better feel, whilst also helping to produce a faster overall construction.

This year, TaylorMade are saying that their ability to separate both feel and distance, something which would historically go hand-in-hand, represents a game-changing innovation in ball design.

"Our learnings from countless player and Tour tests show that golfers, unsurprisingly, favour a softer more muted sound with added distance. Historically, the challenge has been the inability to improve one without negatively impacting the other. With this understanding, we've evolved our golf ball design process by uniquely decoupling feel and speed through material advancement, a complete departure from the conventional. The material-level advancement positions our TP5/TP5x family as having the best feel in the industry with faster constructions."

2024 also marks an update to the 5-layer design of the ball, fueled by the Speed Wrapped Core, which optimises variable stiffness between the core and mantle layers. This helps to reduce spin on drivers and long irons, while enhancing spin control for wedges.

TP5 or TP5x?

The TP5 and TP5x balls offer two distinct choices to cater to different player preferences.

The TP5, which is TaylorMade's softest 5-layer Tour ball, offers a softer feel with more spin around the green, making it better for golfers who are looking for more touch and feel in their short game. The TP5 also delivers lower driver spin than the previous generation, whilst still maintaining the same levels of greenside performance.

The TP5x is the fastest ball in TaylorMade's 5-layer offering. The design prioritises ball speed, making it the best choice for golfers looking for ultimate speed off the club face. The new TP5x sees a reduction in driver and long iron spin, as well as a flatter trajectory, focusing on distance while maintaining spin around the green.

Pix with ClearPath alignment

TaylorMade also offer the TP5 and TP5x with 'pix', which uses the visual technology of ClearPath Alignment, the most played all-over print visual tech on Tour.

The new model features a longer centreline and added colour contrast, to give golfers easier alignment and more precise feedback on the green.

The new pix graphic has changed from a 'motion' triangle to a diamond shape, and has been rearranged with a more centralised orange colour palate. This adds more colour and enhances visibility, making alignment more straight-forward.
