The Staff FG franchise has been a popular range for Wilson since the introduction of the original FG Tour irons in 2009.

The latest offering, the FG Tour F5 series of clubs, have been designed around what Wilson is calling a Feel, Crossover and Distance (F-C-D) system aimed to deliver the technology needs of every type of golfer.

The F-C-D system places players within three categories to ensure that club features and benefits are matched to the strengths and games of individual players. The FG Tour F5 sits in within the Crossover category.

Wilson's Global Director of Innovation, Michael Vrska explains the concept:

The new Crossover category is for the golfer who wants workability, forgiveness and distance in their clubs. Our product design starts and ends with the player in mind and whilst the new F5 designs are geared to suit the eye of the better player our game improvement technology helps complement each golfer’s game.

Already in the bags of Wilson Tour players Kevin Streelman and Brendan Steele the F5 driver (pictured above) includes Reactive Face technology which is Wilson's take on the now familiar variable thickness faces that look to maximise ball speeds across the face for greater forgiveness and distance.

The FG Tour F5 driver comes in two lofts of 9° and 10.5° that are complemented by a a six-way adjustable hosel covering loft settings from 8° to 12° in half degree increments and three adjustable sole weights to allow players to attain their ideal launch angle, ball speed and spin rate.

Wilson is also introducing what they call Green Means Go! Fast Fit technology within the hosel allowing players to make quick adjustments to their set ups without the need to remove the club head from the shaft.

The interchangeable weight in the sole of the club has been placed low and close to the face to decrease spin and maintain an optimal launch angle for maximum distance.

The Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 Driver will be available in January 2016 with an RRP of £279.

Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 Fairway & Hybrids

Green Means Go is also a feature of the FG Tour F5 fairway woods and hybrids so players can easily dial in these clubs to achieve the optimal launch and spin wherever on the course they are. The fairway woods come in three lofts, 13.5°, 15° and 17°, with the hosel giving 6 further options. The F5 hybrids are available in 17°, 20° and 23° and their hosel gives the option for three loft adjustments and three upright lie settings.

Both clubs feature a Carpenter Custom 455 maraging stainless steel face insert that, through development with Wilson's Advisory Tour Staff, is a thin, flexible hitting surface with a responsive CT (Characteristic Time) which delivers increased ball speeds and greater distance.

Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 Hybrid

The Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 fairways and hybrids will be available in January 2016 and have an RRP of £199 and £179 respectively.

Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 Forged Irons

Wilson has taken the Smart Sole technology that we reviewed in the D200 irons and put it into the new FG Tour Forged iron.

Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 Irons

The Speed Sole creates a thin face-to-sole transition that expands the sweetspot lower on the face to give faster ball speeds to the strikes in this area which are common in the long and mid irons.

Forged from 8620 carbon steel and with a stabilising bar in the back of the club to support the thin responsive face, the FG Tour F5 irons provide the combination of feel, feedback and forgiveness that is central to Wilson's Crossover concept.

The irons are available with either True Temper Gold XP steel shafts or MRC Kuro Kage LB 85 graphite shafts and will be available in January 2016 with RRP's of £599 Steel and £699 Graphite.
