Wilson, the brand with more Major victories with its irons than any other, impressed with its range of super game-improvement clubs, the Staff D200 family.
For 2017 they have taken the technology behind these clubs a step further in the Wilson Staff D300 range, which includes a driver, fairway woods and hybrid using Right Light Technology and Micro Vortex Generators, and irons incorporating the FLX face first see in the Staff C200 irons.
At the heart the new club's design ethos is speed and distance, as Michael Vrska, Global Innovation Director of Wilson Golf, explains:
Innovation is at the core of all we do and elevating distance is something we take seriously. Micro Vortex Generators and Right Light are technologies that players can see and feel, but most importantly, the speed and distance benefits will be obvious from the first swing.
Wilson Staff D300 Driver
The Wilson Staff D300 metals feature a new aerodynamic design that makes the D300 driver one of the lightest and fastest adjustable drivers on the market.
Incorporating proprietary SuperLight technology, with the 460cc head weighing just 202g as part of a total club weight of just 273g, and a new aerodynamic head shape that includes visible Micro Vortex Generators to reduce drag, the D300 delivers increased clubhead speed for enhanced distance.
Green Means GO! Fast Fit technology allows players to make quick adjustments to set up without removing the club head from the shaft and an interchangeable weight in the sole of the club means the weight of the club can be reduced further still, allowing golfers to swing faster with the same effort.
The D300 driver's six-way adjustable hosel (including three draw options) covers loft settings from 8° to 14° in half degree increments and three adjustable sole weights allow players to attain their ideal launch angle, ball speed and spin rate.
Wilson Staff D300 Fairway
The Micro Vortex Generators can also be found on the crown of the Staff D300 fairway woods and combine with a Carpenter Custom 455 maraging stainless steel face insert creating a thin, flexible and responsive Characteristic Time (CT) face for increased ball speeds and longer distances.
The D300 fairways are available in three loft models, (3 wood at 15° loft, 5 at 18° and 7 at 21°) and are fitted with a Matrix Speed Rulz A-Type 49 graphite shaft.
Wilson Staff D300 Hybrid
The Staff D300 hybrids use a progressive head design to offer increased volume on the stronger lofts that require more forgiveness on longer shots.
The Micro Vortex Generators are again present on the crown to create faster movement through the air whilst the clubs also boast the same Carpenter Custom 455 maraging stainless steel face insert found on the fairway woods.
The D300 hybrids are available in 2 to 7-hybrid in RH (ranging from 17° - 31° lofts) and are fitted with a Matrix Speed Rulz A-Type 54 graphite shaft.
Wilson Staff D300 Irons
The FLX Face technology found previously in the C200 irons has been moved into Wilson's super game improvement category in the Staff D300 irons.
This minimises contact points between the thin face and clubhead to generate greater clubhead speed and distance. Internal testing shows that only 26% of the face is connected to the body, while 74% of the face perimeter is taken up by Power Holes.
The Power Holes are filled with TE031 Urethane and extend through and around the face to give the irons a distinctive feel and sound.
Heel and toe weight pods with a combined weight of 60 grams are positioned on the extreme perimeter of the clubhead to increase Moment of Inertia (MOI) and move the Centre of Gravity (CG) deeper in the head to aid forgiveness and launch.
The Staff D300 irons come as a set 5-9, PW, GW, SW in both left handed models and with the option of either KBS Tour 80 steel and Matrix Rulz A-Type 54 graphite shafts.
