Wilson Staff has announced a new lightweight driver, fairway wood and hybrids to complete the D7 range, aimed towards players seeking extra distance and forgiveness on tee shots.
Wilson Staff D7 Driver
The Wilson D7 driver, for both men and women, features the same Re-Akt technology seen in the D7 irons released last year, which combines a Superlight Design with Reactive Face Technology to create extra clubhead speed and ball speed for greater distances. The driver also comes with Dynamic Launch Control, which is able to optimise launch conditions for a variety of different players, dependent on their own swing characteristics.
Jon Pergande, Global Innovation Manager at Wilson Golf, explained how the D7 driver was developed:
The process of creating the D7 driver started with designing the head shape and then stripping out all available weight, almost 25 grams. This weight was strategically returned to the head with the goal of improving the sound of the driver and optimising ball flight with Dynamic Launch Control.
The driver boasts a lightweight crown which succeeds in removing excess weight from the club head for greater speed, and redistribution elsewhere. The sound is also improved with Wilson’s new Komposite Crown Design, which features a layer of Dupon Kevlar, said to dampen sound and vibrations throughout the club, which is wedged between two layers of carbon on the crown.
The aforementioned Dynamic Launch Control comes with a choice of three different loft options to suit different swing speeds. The 9 degree head is aimed at players with a fast swing speed, with weighting forward in the head for lower launch and spin. The 10.5 degree head is for those with moderate swing speeds, with middle weighting for a higher launch and spin. Finally the 13 degree head is best suited to slower swingers, with weighting further back in the head and towards the heel for the highest launch and a draw bias.
The D7 driver comes with a new tour-standard UST-Mamiya Helium Series shaft, available in 45 gram A-flex, 46 gram R-flex and 57 gram S-flex. There is also a new Wilson Staff MicroLite Lamkin grip.
The D7 driver will be available from mid-January at an RRP of £269.
Wilson Staff D7 Fairway Woods and Hybrid
Wilson has made a number of changes to their fairway woods and hybrid this year, after gaining input from Wilson Tour players on a number of aspects of the designs.
The heads feature a new Lightweight Crown Construction with thin-cast pockets, to save five grams of weight and continue the Superlight theme. Wilson say that the Carpenter Custom 455 Stainless Steel face insert provides a thin, hot face to increase both feel and distance either from the tee or the fairway.
Doug Wright, Global Commercial Director at Wilson Golf, said:
The design of the D7 fairways and hybrids are based on comprehensive research and analysis of the golf market. Golfers of all abilities will benefit from Re-Akt Technology, along with the confidence-inspiring looks at address.
The D7 fairway wood is available in three loft options – 15, 18 and 21 degrees - with the same UST-Mamiya Helium Series shaft and Wilson Staff MicroLite Lamkin grip as used on the driver.
It will be available from mid-January at an RRP of £149.
The D7 hybrid is available in four loft options (19, 22, 25 and 28 degrees) with the UST-Mamiya Recoil shaft in A-, R- and S- flexes at 65 grams. The grip is the Wilson Staff classic Lamkin Crossline pattern grip.
It will be on sale from mid-January at an RRP of £129.
