The Odyssey Backstryke putter takes some of Callaway's most popular head shapes and places the shaft at the back of the head rather than the front.
This reminds us of a Slotline putter from the 1980's that had an onset hosel so that the head was out in front of the shaft. Odyssey have done something similar with the Backstryke and it gets the face of the putter out in front of the shaft at address and throught the stroke.
We like this approach as you get a clear view of the ball and the leading edge of the club which makes it very easy to line the club up. As your hands are behind the ball you also get through it a lot better as you hit it earlier in the stroke than you normally would with an offset putter.
The Backstryke also has the advantage that each model is centre shafted which really helps to give you a very solid feel, as well as getting your eyes over the ball. The models they have chosen from the DART and 2-Ball ranges are renowned for their site lines and the Backstryke hosel design really brings these features to the fore.
The White Ice insert in the Backstryke putter is one of the best Odyssey inserts in our opinion as it is a little firmer than the standard White Hot, whilst still giving a good level of feel.
It may look a little different, but we would urge you to give it a go, especially if you need help lining up, as this is an excellent alternative design to standard putters.
