The Anser is the first Ping fairway wood to feature an adjustable hosel that enables a +/- 0.5 degree change in the loft of the club to tune the trajectory to suit the player's swing. We find this to be very useful in fairway woods as the trajectory is more important and the change in loft can also tweak the lie so that the right dispersion pattern is achieved. The profile of the steel Anser head is 5% larger than the the Ping i20 fairway, but 5% smaller and less forgiving than the Ping G20 fairway. The trajectory of the Anser fairway sits between the 2 models and it is pretty workable. Weight saved in the hosel has been moved to the pull the face wider at the bottom, making it 4% larger than the i20. The dark oversized head had a lovely look at at address and we like this design of fairway. It was very forgiving for a performance club and the sound and feel were excellent and the best of the 3 models of Anser woods, with a nice zing sound at impact. There are 3 lofts and the 14.5 degree 3-wood was very powerful, but of course you can up that loft to 15 degrees if you want to. There is not the same choice of shafts as the driver, but the blended weights of the TFC 800F shaft was pretty good and you can pay extra for others. It is going to be a little on the pricey side for a fairway wood but if you are feeling flush it will give you the performance of the i20 with a bit more forgiveness and custom fitting options so will be worth the extra.
