The Callaway X Hot Pro utility club has a more compact head than the standard Callaway X Hot Utility. Combined with a smaller offset this hybrid is aimed at better players.

One of the key features is the Speed Frame face that combines a rigid steel frame with a faster, thinner steel face that is welded on for more ball speed. Hitting the club was a joy and the flight was strong and penetrating which better players will like. And it did go. We tried the 16 degree version and it was almost going as far as the 15 degree Callaway X Hot Fairway which was very impressive.

The X Hit Pro looked very good at address with the face being a nice size to give some confidence and forgiveness as well as looking like a players club. The sound was also lovely and added to the sense that this is a quality club.

The Pro version comes with a slightly heavier Project X velocity shaft with a blue ‘X’ on it. shaft that is excellent quality and very stable without being too stiff or heavy. This does add to the overall weight of the club as the X Hot Pro head is also a little heavier. Whilst this is fine in isolation, when on the course and you were using this and then the lighter Callaway X Hot Driver and fairway, it felt a little out of sync with the rest of the set.

The sole of the X Hot Pro features a ‘modern warbird’ sole which basically means it is curved to make it more playable from uneven lies and it was certainly as good out the rough as it was from the fairway.

Overall the Callaway X Hot Pro is a very good better player’s hybrid with very good distance and forgiveness, although the weight could be an issue for set compatibility.
