Who? 28 year-old Swede Sebastian Soderberg
What? The 2019 Omega European Masters, his first European Tour victory
Where? Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club, Crans Montana, Switzerland
How? Despite starting the final round four strokes off the lead, Soderberg jumped to the top with five consecutive birdies to start his back nine. However he was forced into playoff thanks to a nervy three-putt on the 17th. He was able to collect himself again though and claimed victory over four others, including McIlroy, thanks to a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Following the victory, Soderberg said:
I proved to myself that I can play out here. I didn't really know that I was ready to win, I had a terrible start to the season and I felt like I was just trying to make my way into the top 110 and keep my card for next year. It's just a surreal way to do it.
