Best Putters of 2022

The putter is the most-used and most important club in your bag... it can make or break a good round. That's why its so important to make sure that you have the model which is going to help you hole more putts.

These days there are so many different head shapes and face inserts that it can be easy to get lost amongst all of the technology.

Here at Golfalot, we've taken nine popular putters that we have tested this year and put them in one handy article to help you out if you are thinking of making a switch.

Sophie took the putters down to Stockport GC to put them head to head and compare how each model might offer you something different on the greens...

Quick Hit: Premium Evnroll putter provides excellent stability and fantastic roll in a great looking package.

The Tech: A three-tiered, wider mid-blade with heel and toe weighting that also benefits from Guerin Rife's Sweet Face Technology, which changes groove thickness from the middle to the edges of the face to improve the consistency of the ball's roll.

Golfalot Says: "The ER2V provides fantastic build quality, excellent grip, stunning looks and great performance. They aren't cheap at £369 but if you've got the money it could be well worth a try. There has been a fair bit of hype around Evnroll for a while now and I can clearly see why."

Quick Hit: Ultra stable putter shifts weight to the edges of the head and provides a pure roll.

The Tech: Evnroll has taken MOI levels from high to extreme thanks to steel weights in the rear corners of the head, along with a clear sightline for alignments and the Sweet Face technology. The short slant hosel is designed to eliminate the pull miss from your game.

Golfalot Says: "I could easily put this club in the bag and use it for the rest of the season, I loved testing it."

TaylorMade Spider GT Rollback Putter

Quick Hit: Great balance of forgiveness and feel makes this one of the best Spider putters in TaylorMade's lineup.

The Tech: An aluminium cap is designed to help deliver a centred CG for optimal forgiveness, along with an 80g tungsten stability bar that wraps around the back of the head for better stability. A new firmer Pure Roll 2 insert improves topspin across the face for a more consistent roll.

Golfalot Says: "It just strikes a great balance of forgiveness and feel which is exactly what I'm looking for in a putter."

TaylorMade Spider GT Putter

Quick Hit: The headline model in the range will stand out on the shelves and provides great alignment and stability.

The Tech: A 145g aluminium top plate eliminates excess weight in the middle of the putter, whilst 90g steel side weights provide a heavier frame for stability and distance control, even on off-centre strikes.

Golfalot Says: "With the Spider name and Ferrari-like colourways, the Spider GT will sell well as it is a standout putter and I’m sure it will draw your eye when you walk into your local Pro Shop."

Quick Hit: Beautiful looking and feeling putters are ideal for the serious golfer.

The Tech: Deep full face grooves are designed to control sound and feel by dampening vibrations, whilst a new two split-weight system can move weights forward in the head and toward the toe and the heel.

Golfalot Says: "With the Chicago, the consistency off the face is awesome, making the roll true. During my testing the ball seemed to hug the putting surface."

Quick Hit: The #7 Nano has some great assets but may only attract a niche target audience of golfers.

The Tech: A heel shafted, flow neck mallet best suited for strokes with lots of arc and face rotation. Features the iconic White Hot Insert and a Milled Surface Finish, along with adjustable sole weights.

Golfalot Says: " In a highly-inflated market where prices only seem to be going up and up, it is quite refreshing to see this putter priced at an RRP of £199. This, given the high-quality milled finish and Stroke Lab shaft, will turn a lot of golfers heads."

Quick Hit: A solid putter that provides plenty of stability and is good value for money, although the heavy feel of the head may take a little bit of getting used to.

The Tech: SOFT technology sees the frequency of the milling lines change from the centre to the outer edges of the face, helping to provide consistent distance control no matter where you strike the ball on the face.

Golfalot Says: "The whole package is good, complete with a nice quality headcover, and the overall finish of the product more than lives up to the price tag of £139."

Quick Hit: Zebra returns with iconic design offering plenty of alignment to capture hearts and minds.

The Tech: Elongated stripes across the putter head help to align to the target, whilst internal 15g weighting pads move weight to the heel and toe to raise MOI. A specific face groove pattern provides the correct amount of friction needed to add topspin and lower the launch angle to improve roll.

Golfalot Says: "If you are looking to recapture some of that old magic in your game or you're someone who is invested in golfing history, then the new range of Zebra putters are well worth a closer look.."

Ping 2023 Anser 2D Putter

RRP As Reviewed: £280

Quick Hit: Ping's latest putter range features an updated look and better feel than the 2021 collection, with plenty of different models available, although at £280 they are firmly in the premium category.

The Tech: A Pebax face insert with a shallow milled surround is designed to provide a soft feel and consistent ball speeds along with a quieter sound. Tungsten heel and toe weights also provide extra stability and forgiveness.

Golfalot Says: "I really like the shape of this head as it is essentially a typical Anser but with a bit more forgiveness thanks to the increased head size, and the fact that there are weights in both the heel and the toe."
