Golf Course Says
"If there is something that golfers want and do not get at Walton Heath I do not know what it can be." That was the verdict of the first and greatest of all golf writers, Bernard Darwin, on the two golf courses that make up Walton Heath Golf Club. Make not mistake these are 36 that just drip with history and pedigree. Walton Heath Golf Club is a Ryder Cup hosting golf club and the golf courses are of the quality you would expect.
The Old Course at Walton Heath Golf Club has played host to some of the greats and was the venue for the thrilling exploits of, perhaps, the greatest Ryder Cup team of all time when Dave Marr arrived at the course with a team packed with the likes of Nicklaus, Watson, Trevino et al. That event is just one in a number of prestigous professional and amateur tournaments that Walton Heath has staged over the years with the top players always keen to return - Ernie Els has called Walton Heath one of the "true classic" course around today.
Walton Heath New golf course has the same heathland setting as the Old course, and shared a designer in Herbert Fowler, and can play up to 7200 yards with a par of 72. A gentle start might relax the golfer but the New Course at Walton Heath gets progressively harder as play goes on. An outstanding course the Walton Heath New Course is well worthy of its reputation for attracting the best golfers and the cream of society: how many other clubs could boast of having a king and four prime ministers among its membership? Walton Heath Golf Club certainly can in the shape of King Edward VIII, Lloyd George, Bonar Law, Arthur Balfour and Winston Churchill.
Major events held at Walton Heath - including that famous Ryder Cup win for America - have often been played over a composite 18 hole comprising the very best of both Old and New.
Golfalot Review of Walton Heath Golf Club Old Course
Whilst the first hole at the Walton Heath Old Course is a bit odd - a long par 3 on the clubhouse side of the road, once you cross the B2032 you see the real Walton Heath. Stretching out before you is a panorama of gently rolling heather where accuracy rather than power is the key.
Heather is the key feature and the Old Course's main defence as it clings to the sides of the fairway and punishes any wayward drive as hakcing out is usually the only option. Place your drive in the fairway and life is easier and you enjoy Surrey golf at its best. The layout of the holes is very good, the bunkering is excellent and the greens are usually superb. Add to that a beautiful clubhouse and one of the best clubhouse putting greens that is just asking for a post refreshment putting compeititon and you have one of England's classic golf clubs at Walton Heath.

Todays GolferSteeped in history. Inland golf doesn't get any better than this. Only closes when it snows!
