GolfGPS is free and relatively easy to use. You can't ask for much more, because you don't pay for anything more.

Forget searching through Course Databases to find your course, or setting up betting games or scorecards, GolfGPS is a basic app with aerial imagery for you to place your own yardages on.

Simply zoom , pan and drop flags on the aerial image to display the distance from your location to that point. Place the flags in bunkers, on the green, to a water hazard or whatever point on the course you choose.

The app also displays five coloured rings relating to your current location giving you an indication of what obstacles are 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 yards away.

If you are looking for a no-frills, basic, GPS app, this could be the one for you. It is easy to add and remove flags, and the yardages will alter as you move.

We found that compared to other apps, the yardages were not quite as accurate, and there was sometimes a delay with the app finding you exact location.

During rounds it became tedious to constantly plot flags on the course compared to most apps that automatically give you yardages to the front, middle and back of the green.

There is a paid version of the app that removes the ads from the bottom of the screen and has the ability to measure your shots.
