Ping i20 Irons

The Ping i20 Irons are a multi-material, progressive set. The longer irons are slightly larger, more forgiving and produce a high launch, whilst the smaller irons feature less offset and improved control.

The Ping i20 irons feature a low-glare satin finish. Tungsten weights in the toe of the irons elevates the i20's forgiveness, whilst a new stabilising bars and thicker face offer precise distance control and solid feel. A vertical Custom Tuning Port in the back of the face positions the centre of gravity to optimise ball flight

Ping's CEO and Chairman, John Solheim said "The stabilising bars and the thicker face offer great feel and ensure that golfers can hit to precise yardages. Distance control is an absolute must for better players, but precision is going to help anyone lower their scores.”

The Ping i20 irons are available with one of two shafts: PING’s CFS (Control, Feel and Stability) steel shaft and the TFC 169i graphite shaft.

What Golfalot Says

The Ping i20 irons are a big change to the i15s and help them reach up the handicap range a little. They are still ideal for low single figure players, but now we could see some improving category 2 players using these too.

The chassis of the i20 irons is similar to the i15s apart from the width of the sole near the tow which is a little narrower. The big difference comes in the revised custom tuning port in the back of the head, which now slots in behind the face and works with the stabilising bars to increase the forgiveness from the same sized head. Their progressive offset and smaller head size is still there but is less noticeable and the short irons look much playable then previously, as they used to get too compact for our liking. The new satin finish looks very good in a Ping kind of way and combined with the ferrule on the hosel, the Ping i20 irons have a real better player feel about them.

The Ping CFS steel shaft has a different stepped design to the previous AWT shaft and we preferred it as it give a good penetrating flight. They are cast irons and the feel at impact was ok and did not give you as much feedback as a forged iron. However this is our only gripe as other wise the Ping i20 irons are as good a better player forgiving iron as there is in the market.

Just replaced my i15 irons with the new Ping i20s. Apart from looking better, I now require one iron less. My wedge distance, for example has gone from an average 105 yds with the i15s to 115 with the i20s.

The new clubs are listed as having the same swing weight but in my opinion the i20s feel much lighter. They do not produce the feel of a forged Mizuno iron but it is not much short of this and although fairly forgiving, you know when contact is poor.

All round I think Ping have produced a great iron with the i20 model and it should appeal to all golfers up to around 15 handicap. As a senior golfer who's handicap has just gone up to double digits, I am pinning my hopes on these irons getting me back down.

Well done Ping, another top product backed by great customer service.
