The Mizuno MP-64 iron is a Diamond Muscle, Grain Flow Forged iron designed for Mizuno's professional tour players.

The MP-64 features a double nickel mirror chrome finish and offers slightly more forgiveness than a traditional blade thanks to the shallowest of cavities. The smooth look and feel is complemented by a softer, edged, playable sole shape. The tour grind is maintained, while less defined edges produce more consistent distance control and turf interaction.

Mizuno's R&D focussed on producing the MP-64 iron with the softest, most solid feel possible. The quest for more feedback led to a thicker, bulging muscle pad behind a wider portion of the face. This produces a smoother feel that Mizuno's tour players recognise from previous muscleback irons.

The longer irons feature a deeper cavity, providing forgiveness where it is needed most. The cavity depth progressively reduces down to the short irons which are thick and exclusively feel-orientated.

Each Mizuno MP-64 iron is Grain Flow Forged from a single 1025E Pure select mild carbon steel billet for a pure feel.

Mizuno MP-64 Irons Review

When you first look at the Mizuno MP-64 irons you get the feeling you have seen them before somewhere. Looking back we feel that Mizuno have combined the peripheral weighting from the MP-62 irons with the diamond back cavity of the MP-63 irons and we think this works well.

Rumour has it these were designed with a lot of input from Luke Donald, especially in the area of turf interaction and the grinds around the heel and back of the sole are very subtle and give the club some smooth lines.

This allows the sole to be a little wider than usual for an MP iron and the MP-64 has the weight a little lower in the sole than the MP-63. The diamond back places more weight behind the hitting area which did make it feel very solid at impact.

Right throughout the set the trajectory was excellent and the MP-64s were pretty forgiving for a better players' iron. The longer irons were not as intimidating as others in this category, but the short irons disappointed slightly with their oversized profile. They didn't seem to fit in with a better player's set and didn't offer the level of workability we had anticipated, although the wedge is strong at 46 degrees.

The MP-64 will be ideal for low single figures golfers who want more control than the JPX825 Pro, even though there is not much in it. Whilst the MP-64 is a quality club, it is very similar to the previous MP-62 and MP-63 models. The changes therefore are subtle, but ultimately effective.

The MP-64's are the latest grain flow forged irons in the Mizuno range developed with the input of Mizuno tour professionals including Luke Donald who put them straight in his bag.

These are classic Mizuno irons with The Diamond Muscle back design with a progressive cavity.

Mizuno have created a beautiful set of irons that can be worked like a blade but have some added forgiveness. They will not give you that extra yardage your looking for, if you struggle for distance, but what they do give you is superb playability, feel, consistency and feedback.

They just feel amazing and the flight is fantastic with a tight dispersion. These can be combined with the new H4 irons as a long iron replacements if you struggle with the long irons, which give extra forgiveness and higher launch.

With numerous regional and national fitting centers it's essential to get custom fitted to get the best out of them. Get down your local pro shop or stockist and give these a try as I don't think you can find better quality irons than these. I am sure like me you won't be disappointed.

All I need now is a nice new bag to put them in.
