Rescue Me.

Those are the words of many amateur golfers who take to the shops in search of an alternative to their hard-to-hit long irons. TaylorMade's latest rescue club comes in the form of the new SLDR S hybrid, part of the new SLDR S range of metalwoods.

TaylorMade SLDR S Hybrid Pair

The SLDR S hybrid looks very similar to original SLDR rescue club, but with a reversed satin silver crown and black face and sole colour scheme. The key technology remains the same in the form of the curved Speed Pocket on the sole that is designed to increase speed and distance by allowing the face to flex at impact.

TaylorMade's Metalwoods Manager, Rob Rigg, said:

Golfers were asking for an SLDR Rescue that has a lower and more forgiving profile. The SLDR S Rescue has a shallower face and larger head size engineered to deliver distance and playability. Combine that with a stunning matte silver crown with black button back for alignment and you have a great looking rescue that is long and easy to hit.

As Rob explains, by making the face height shallower the SLDR S possesses a lower centre of gravity than most hybrids, and lower than the centre of a golf ball. This set-up allows players to launch the ball higher, the goal of many players who choose hybrids over long irons.

TaylorMade SLDR S Hybrid Tech

Unlike the original SLDR hybrid, the SLDR S does not come in 17° option but offers slightly higher "Loft Up" options in the form of 19°, 21°, 24° and a new 28° model. Each is approximately 1-inch shorter and 10cc larger than before, which should offer a more controllable, forgiving performance.

Each SLDR S hybrid comes fitted as standard with a Fujikura Speeder shaft that is 10 grams lighter than the original SLDR, making it easier to swing for a wider range of players.
