The Vapor family of clubs from Nike Golf welcomes two new members, the Vapor Speed and Vapor Flex fairway woods.
Nate Radcliffe, Director of Engineering for Nike Golf, explains the driving force behind their design:
Athlete insights drove significant chassis refinement in the Vapor fairway woods. Our athletes wanted tighter but forgiving leading edges, fuller profiles and added ball speed. We’ve delivered that with the synergy of our FlyBeam and Compression Channel technologies.
Nike Vapor Speed Fairway Woods
The Vapor Speed fairway woods have the biggest footprint of any Nike fairway and are 25% larger than previous models. This is coupled with a lower and deeper Centre of Gravity (CG).
The larger profile was requested by golfers including Tiger Woods, but it was key for Nike to deliver this increased size without sacrificing ball speed and optimal launch conditions, which they achieved by sloping the crown to lower CG and optimise launch.
The Vapor Speed fairways feature the same FlyBeam Covert Cavity Back design found in the Nike Vapor Driver and a re-engineered Compression Channel next to a NexCOR face. These combine to maximise ball speed and produce a longer and straighter ball flight.
Nike Vapor Flex Fairway Woods
The Vapor Flex fairway woods incorporate the same technologies as the Vapor Speed, but in a smaller head. However the club gets its name as this model is flexible.
With the addition of Nike's FlexLoft 2 adjustability system in the hosel the Flex offers five lofts and three face angles to total 15 options for the golfer to choose from.
The FlexLoft system has been improved and is now 30% lighter than in previous generations. This allows weight to be moved in the head to lower the CG by 2mm in the Vapor Flex fairway.
Both Nike Vapor fairway woods will be available from January 31st 2015 with the Vapor Speed retailing at £159.99 and the Vapor Flex at £189.99.
