Although it may seem a surprise to many golfers new to the game, Mizuno, the Japanese golf equipment manufacturer long renowned for industry-leading forged golf clubs, also boasts a long heritage in golf footwear, a heritage that it claims to have been put to good use with the addition of the ultra-lightweight Nexlite SL golf shoe for Spring/Summer 2017.

Mizuno Nexlite SL Golf Shoes

Globally, Mizuno’s footwear represents the brand’s largest product category, a category which has long included golf shoes, and from Spring/Summer 2017, Mizuno will be re-introducing its golf footwear to the UK and Europe after a short period out of the game.

The first new model unveiled by the Japanese giant’s is the Mizuno Nexlite SL, an ultralight 275 gram shoe engineered by Mizuno’s running team that promises to make walking the course as pleasurable and comfortable an experience as possible. Nexlite SL are spikeless shoes geared for the summer months, built on the patented Mizuno Wave platform, which has been instrumental in the success of many Mizuno running trainers, offering long-lasting cushioning, stability and comfort.

Motohiro Jinno of Mizuno's Footwear Division explains:

The Mizuno Wave platform is trusted by marathon runners the world over. But it’s just as effective to walk 36 holes on the golf course. The corrugated sole plate gives a firm cushioning and stability designed to reduce foot fatigue, which makes the last few holes that much easier.

A unique, golf-specific technology added into the shoe is the IG Multi Technology (Impact Grip System), which claims to deliver added grip and stability throughout the swing in firm conditions, and specifically through impact.

Mizuno has also addressed the issue of footwear weight when walking long distances on a golf course in the new Nexlite SL. Weighing just 275 grams, the shoes are not only the lightest golf shoe that Mizuno has ever produced, but impressively they also claim to be the lightest in their category in golf. A soft-touch Sofrina SK upper has helped to reduce the total shoe weight, while remaining breathable and lightweight.

Waterproofing comes via Mizuno’s Protein Tex, a lightweight material that feels like leather and provides nearly three times as much water resistance pressure (20,000ml) as certain other waterproof membranes.

The Nexlite SL come with a two-year waterproof warranty and are available in four colourways for men: White/Blue, Blue/Black, Red/Black and Black and two colourways for ladies: White/Black and White/Sax.
