The FootJoy XPS-1 golf shoe builds on the stability story started by the SynrG shoe and takes it to a whole new level. The wide base of the sole extends beyond the normal edge of the shoe and from certain angles the ‘outriggers’ look like parts of a stealth fighter attached to your foot.

However it certainly does improve the stability of the shoe as you move through the swing as the wider base increases the amount of surface area in contact with the ground. Turn the XPS-1 shoe over and you see there is also plenty of traction points around each spike so that the spike is not so raised that you feel you are walking only on the spikes on harder ground.

Padraig Harrington had a hand in the development of the shoe to create more stability in his swing and if you are someone who wants to stop rolling over your ankle on the follow through then this shoe will definitely help that. However if this is you, be careful and break yourself in gently as your body may not appreciate all this extra support initially.

This will also benefit other styles of swing as the extra stability does give the confidence to get more power into your shots as you transition your weight to the right and then the left as you swing.

The FootJoy XPS-1 golf shoe is a premium performance shoe and the comfort and fit are excellent thanks to the lightweight fibreglass support in the mid section, a very good Fit-Bed insole and the 3D gel collar around the ankle area.

The leather upper breaks in easily and the predominantly white style with the 3 different colour flashes look great as well. FootJoy have invested a lot of time and effort into the XPS-1 golf shoe to create a new product with a performance benefit and we think they have hit the mark
