Having undergone the Bridgestone Ball Fitting Challenge ourselves, we can testify to the boost that playing the correct golf ball can give to your game.
Not surprisingly our swing speed did not fall into the same category as Bridgestones's PGA Tour staff player Matt Kuchar, but the same cannot be said of Irishman Michael O'Grady, a former World Champion.
A former World Champion for one-armed golfers.
Despite losing his right arm in a car accident at the age of 18 the 8 handicapper from Tullamore Golf Club, who has represented Europe in three Fightmaster Cups, the one-armed version of the Ryder Cup, generates Tour-level club head speed and therefore needed a ball to match.
At a ball fitting session he was put through his paces by Bridgestone golf ball technician Danny Osborne:
When I fitted Michael, I couldn’t quite believe the amount of power he was generating off the tee with his reverse one-armed swing. His driving stats put him into the same swing speed category as PGA Tour star Matt Kuchar and make him suitable for playing the B330-S ball.
The Tour B330-S is designed for fast swing speeds and players who are looking for more spin around the greens. Using Bridgestone's Hydro Core Technology, that places water into the balls core, the ball is able to spin less off the driver which improves both distance and accuracy.
That's certainly a difference that Michael has noticed.
I love the feel of the Bridgestone B330-S and adding nine yards will help me enormously in tournament play. There’s still golfers out there who don’t realise quite how much a ball fitting will help their game, but I’ve found out first hand that it really does.
Steve Kettlewell, MD of Bridgestone Golf UK, commented:
It’s a privilege to help such a talented golfer like Michael and we wish him all the best for the rest of the season. His ball-fitting proves that golfers can make a big improvement to their game just by changing the ball, the least expensive part of their equipment.
