Mizuno have really raised the bar with the quality of their recent hybrid clubs and we were very excited to try the new 2009 MP FLI HI that Mizuno say is a direct long iron replacement.
Compared to the excellent 2007 version , Mizuno say they have reduced the offset and bounce of the 2009 club head to produce a hybrid that can fit effortlessly into their better player irons sets to provide that all important mix of playability and forgiveness.
The head of the MP Fli-Hi 2009 is slightly deeper front to back than the previous model and we are not sure this is a good thing as the cavity protrudes form the back of the head at address.
However the beveling along the front edge of the sole helps to reduce the impact of the increased width of the sole as well as creating a deeper centre of gravity.
The hollow head provides excellent feel, but all these changes do result in a higher ball flight than the previous model so if you need help getting the ball airborne with your long irons then this change will be welcome for you.
Better players will probably prefer the trajectory of the previous model as it more closely matched the long iron it was replacing, with similar levels of forgiveness as the 2009 version, but if you have never tried a Mizuno MP Fli-Hi then this is still going to be a great addition to your bag.
