The Cleveland 588 MT irons are quite a chunky iron as their hollow design and low and deep centre of gravity pull the head back to offer excellent forgiveness.

The camber of the trailing edge of the sole and the deep cavity mean that it still goes through the turf well without bouncing too much. The idea is that the MT irons can be blended with the TT irons and in terms of playability we think that is easily done.

The MT irons will hit the ball a little higher than the TT but there was not a major difference. The short and mid irons were effortless to hit, so if you want an easy to hit set of irons then this is it.

The faces a maybe a little shorter top to bottom than the TT irons which is unusual as Cleveland's Classic woods favour tall faces. Certainly in the longer 3 and 4 irons the face does seem quite shallow.

Even though you would be supposed to blend the MT long iron with the TT short irons, we would actually do it the other way round as the TT 3-iron felt easier to hit than the MT. However the player who this is aimed at should probably be looking at hybrids rather than 3-irons.

Like the TT irons the MT irons come with a nice light 85 gram Traction steel shaft or an Action Lite 55 gram graphite shaft that should suit most mid-handicappers.
