Who? 30 year-old Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy

What? The 2019 WGC-HSBC Champions

How? Pre-tournament favourite McIlroy was forced into a playoff by defending champion Xander Schauffele, who made birdie on the 72nd hole to tie things up. However, McIlroy had gone bogey-free for the last 39 holes and his consistency prevailed, with a 4-iron into the green on the first playoff hole setting up a two-putt birdie and clinching the victory.

Following the victory, McIlroy said:

The four wins this year have been wonderful. The Players Championship, Canadian Open, the Tour Championship to win the FedEx Cup, big events. But more than that, I think it is the consistency that I'm bringing week in, week out.
