Who? 27 year-old American Patrick Cantlay.
What? The 2019 Memorial Tournament, his second PGA Tour victory.
Where? Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio.
How? Going into the final round Martin Kaymer held a three-stroke lead, five ahead of Cantlay, but surrendered in the breezy conditions on the back nine with some sloppy bogeys to finish four adrift after a 72. Cantlay however, struck the ball and putted brilliantly en route to a 64, edging out Adam Scott and claiming his second PGA Tour victory, one that had seemed to be just a matter of time thanks to his consistent performances over the last 12 months.
Following the victory, Cantlay said:
It validates my confidence to play against the best golfers in the world.
