Rory McIlroy first went to work with Nike's design team to create the increased stability in the Lunar Control 3 Golf Shoe, challenging them to provide a firmer base for his athletic swing.
This work has continued into the new Lunar Control 4 golf shoe that Nike says provides the ultimate base, stable enough to allow the Northern Irishman to attack the ball with his 120mph swing.
McIlroy will be wearing the shoe for the first time at the 2015 DP World Tour Championship and it is something he is looking forward to:
It’s a design I’ve been involved with ever since my first year with Nike. They give me the confidence needed to maximise power in my swing with reliable control on the ground, especially off the tee.
The Lunar Control 4 combines a number of Nike innovations developed across a variety of sports. The performance demanded by all golfers is provided by the Dynamic Nike Flywire that gives lateral support in the midfoot, whilst a new robust external heel counter has been added to the shoe to keep the foot firmly in place throughout the swing.
The Lunar Control 4 also features a re-engineered lightweight microfibre upper to give the foot a soft and unrestricted feel. A redesigned tongue also wraps ergonomically around the ankle and gives a natural break when walking.
The high performance Nike Lunarlon midsole continues from the Lunar Control 3 giving the shoes superior traction and cushioning.
Football fans will also recognise the updated Swoosh design across the front of the shoe that has proved extremely popular on Nike's Mercurial football boot.
The Nike Lunar Control 4 are available in black/white, white/wolf grey and white/bright crimson colourways for men whilst women can choose from black/white, white/wolf grey and pure platinum/bright crimson.
