The PowaKaddy Sport Lithium Brake golf trolley uses the same tried and tested frame as previous PowaKaddy golf trolleys, which is perfect for whatever size of bag you have, even if it is a tour bag. The Sport Lithium Brake version comes with white wheels that look quite stylish and a choice of graphite or white frames.

The big difference is the handle and display controls, which are significantly better than the FWII model it replaces. The handle is narrower front to back and more sculpted to fit your hand and the re-introduction of the speed control roller makes it much easier to control the speed, whether you are left or right handed. It seems in our tests that the speeds are still set at 1-9 so you can't go at 3.5, just 3 or 4, but it is still much easier to use and the motor is very quiet.

The display has also been simplified and the distance measuring function, which was not very good and liable to get you disqualified in competitions that did not permit distance measuring devices, has thankfully gone. In its place is a clock, speedometer and battery charge indicator all of which give you the information you need in a clear way, even in bright light.

The lithium brake version of the PowaKaddy Sport comes with a lightweight low profile lithium battery that enables you to fold the trolley down with the battery in place, which saves space and time, although you still have to unfold the trolley to get it out at the other end to charge it. However it is smaller and much lighter to carry around than the lead acid battery, looks better and in our test we got 36 holes from one charge. It is more expensive, but if you can afford it, the lithium option for the PowaKaddy Sport Brake golf trolley is well worth the extra.

The EBS braking system is fantastic when you are going downhill as it slows the trolley down to whatever pace you need, even going to a negative speed to come to a stop on very steeps hills. Over and above that the usual great features such as the distance function to send the trolley 15, 30 or 45 yards or metres, frame folding locks, the bag lock and easy grip handles are all included.

We would have liked to have seen the adjustable front wheel clip from the PowaKaddy Touch rather than the adjustable bolt that requires a spanner, but that is about the only thing we can fault. The PowaKaddy Sport Lithium Brake is the daddy of golf trolleys and will be an excellent investment for your game, whatever your level.

I have the EBS function on my trolley which I thought would be great for going downhill. It goes slower/ normal pace downhill to zero but into the first two negative amounts there is no difference in slowing but then suddenly it puts the brakes on hard and stops at -3 mode. The -2 and -1 options are the same as having the trolley on zero and it just runs normally downhill. Very disappointed in this as you nearly trip over it when it's a steep hill and you go down the negatives and hit -3. You cannot go downhill on -3. Sure this can't be right but got no joy when mentioned it to the supplier! Otherwise the trolley is very solid and good.
