The Nike VR_S Forged irons continue the long line of very good forged irons from Nike Golf. The VR Pro irons were always going to be hard to top but we feel the VRS Forged irons are worthy of consideration.

The heads are a little larger and feature a new design with a deep under cut cavity and a face welded forged face and body. This is meant to give them more speed and tests with Nike Tour players shows they get the same distance with 1 less club, although the lofts could be different too.

As a result of the cavity the sound is a little more hollow than previous forged irons and on the 4-iron you can just see it poking out of the rear of the club at address. The forgiveness is very good as well thanks to the larger head and the slight offset through the VRS Forged set. The feel is very good throughout the set and the ball really feels like it is bouncing off the face with a mid to high trajectory.

The face features Nike's X3X grooves, which go down the route of lots of shallow grooves instead of fewer deeper ones to stay within the rules. They work fine, but visually we are not mad about seeing so many grooves on the face.

The PowerBow cavity weight on the rear of the head is cambered on the sole away from the ground so the VR_S Forged irons play more like blades than they look.

Overall the VR_S Forged irons are more like a better player's VR Pro Cavity and are probably the better choice. The are very easy to hit and the combination or feel and forgiveness should appeal to 5-12 handicaps.
