The Mizuno MP-650 hybrid continues the pear shaped styling of the MP-650 range and at address the all black head looks clean and very professional.

For quite a while now Mizuno have been trying to get Luke Donald to change from his old CLK hybrid and with his input they have designed the MP-650, which is probably the best MP hybrid they have done so far.

The steel head is made from two parts and the cup face design ensures a seamless join well back from the face for greater speed off the face.

On the course, the sound is pretty good, although not in the same league as the MP-650 driver or fairway, even allowing for the smaller head.

The feel at impact is good and the trajectory was on the high side, so this will be ideal for stopping quickly on the greens.

The cambered sole is ideal for shots from the tee or fairway, rather than deep rough, but as a better players club, that is expected.

So would we change if we were Luke? Well there are probably better hybrids in the market, but if we were a Mizuno player the MP-650 hybrid would be in our bag.

I have the 19 degree instead of a 5 wood and it is flexible through the gap down to a 3 iron. I am still keeping my 3 iron in play but as I get used to the hybrid I will drop it in favour of another wedge or just a lighter bag.
