The Cleveland CG Black fairway wood was indeed very light and the looks were very sleek and up market. Compared to the previous FL fairway it has a slightly higher crown and a deeper head front to back with a slightly modified sole with a couple of mini rails too guide it through the grass which is a good improvement.

The sound was very good and the CG Black felt very solid although the trajectory was a little on the high side for your average player with a slight draw bias flight. For those with what are being called ‘moderate’ swing speeds it should be perfect as with very little effort you can generate the necessary club head speed to get the ball up and away.

The sound was pretty good, but maybe not as much of a zing as the FL fairway, which is a shame and we are going to miss the gold shaft, but hey, you can't have everything. Available in four lofts that are a little stronger than average, the Cleveland CG Black Faiway is definitely one to consider if you need to generate some extra clubhead speed or daisy cut your fairways.
