Titleist has announced the third generation of their AVX Golf Ball for the 2022 season, with a focus on providing a little more short game spin alongside the usual low flight and low spin characteristics in the long game.

Titleist AVX 2022 Golf Ball

First brought to market in 2018, the AVX was engineered as an alternative to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x models by offering the lowest flight, lowest spin and softest feel of the three premium golf balls.

The latest update is said to provide a better options who want the combination of long distance and a soft feel from their urethane covered golf ball.

"Flight, spin and feel are three key performance attributes we evaluate during our green-to-tee fittings and golf ball selection. AVX provides a low flight, low spin, exceptionally soft feel alternative to Pro V1 and Pro V1x. With these three golf balls, plus Pro V1x Left Dash, every golfer that priorities performance can find a precise fit for their game."

"With the new AVX, we focused on what AVX golfers are asking for: improving upon the already incredible distance and feel that golfers love, while enhancing greenside spin. We achieved this by softening the urethane cover to achieve greater shrot game performance, while adding a new core formulation for speed, and new aerodynamics for flight stability and more distance."

Frederick Waddell, Director of Golf Ball Product Management, Titleist.

Performance and Technology

Three key new technologies have been introduced in the latest AVX ball, which comes as a result of research that stretches back as far as 2013 and encompasses improvements to the core, cover and aerodynamic qualities of the ball.

  • New Reformulated Core

This increases the stiffness of the outermost portions of the core whilst keeping the centre soft, which incrementally decreases driver and long game spin.

A High Flex casing layer promotes high ball speed and low spin on long shots to enhance distance.

  • New Softer Cover

This is a specific formulation which was developed by Titleist's R&D team and is precisely and exclusively cast by their Golf Ball Operations department.

It increases the difference between the soft urethane cover and the hard high flex casing, which contributes to improved short game and greenside spin.

  • New Dimple Pattern

A new 348 Tetrahedral Catenary Aerodynamic dimple pattern is designed to deliver a piercing, low trajectory and features 7 dimple sizes which came about as part of the Pro V1/Pro V1x evaluations which started back in 2013.

Titleist say the new pattern, designed exclusively for the flight window of the AVX, is longer and provides a more consistent ball flight on all shots.

The new AVX ball is available in either white or high optic yellow and will be available worldwide from 4th February, at an SRP of £48 per dozen.
