Over the last decade one of the biggest new trends in wedge design has been the introduction of the high toe design, complete with grooves across the face, designed to give golfers more confidence and versatility in their short game.

TaylorMade Hi-Toe 4 Wedges

The new TaylorMade Hi-Toe 4 wedge builds on the success of the brand's previous Hi-Toe model, with new face technology and a variety of different grinds to take performance to the next level.

Compared to the Hi-Toe 3, the Hi-Toe 4 features a more visually pronounced toe mass pad, with a larger profile to provide another level of confidence for the golfer.

The full-face grooves in the 54, 56, 58 and 60 degree models allow golfers to use the entirety of the face, which is perfect when hitting out of thicker rough or when opening up the face.

Like the MG4 Wedges which were released last year, the Hi-Toe 4 wedges have an elevated CG which promotes low launch conditions and max spin.

TaylorMade say that the new wedges will promote a penetrating, high-spin ball flight which remains predictable in different conditions. This finish increases friction and spin, but also helps to remove moisture in wet conditions to give golfers the same levels of spin and control regardless of the conditions.

The wedges also feature a raw face finish, which is preferred by the majority of Tour players, and helps to reduce the kind of glare that you'll often see when using chrome finish wedges.

The bottom groove of each Hi-Toe wedge is gold, which is designed to contrast with the copper finish of the head, whilst also helping to centre the ball at address. There's an increased offset and a more pronounced leading-edge compared to previous Hi-Toe models, which TaylorMade says makes it easier for golfers to hit soft landing shots with an open face.

The Hi-Toe 4 wedges come in a choice of All-Terrain grinds, which are said to be suitable for golfers of all abilities in a variety of different conditions. Each grind has been machine milled, to ensure maximum consistency in the sole designs.

  • All Terrain Standard Grind (ATS)

This is the most versatile of the Hi-Toe 4 grinds, the ATS is suitable for golfers who favour a neutral face angle at address. It fits all swing types and can be used in a variety of different playing conditions.

A four-way camber allows for extra versatility with the clubface, giving golfers the choice to hit with both an open and closed face. It's available in the full range of lofts, from 50 to 60 degrees.

All Terrain Versatility Grind (ATV)

This wedge is best suited to golfers with shallow angles of attack, who predominantly play off tight, firm turf, thanks to an asymmetric bounce and concave sole.

This design, along with increased bounce when the club face is open, allows for plenty of club face manipulation and shot versatility. It's available in lofts of 56, 58 and 60 degrees.

All Terrain C Grind (ATC)

The ATC grind is the lowest bounce option with a unique reverse C-sole design. Added heel and toe relief make this wedge perfectly suited to golfers with a shallow attack angle playing in firmer conditions.
