Scotty Cameron are replacing their existing Futura line of mallet putters with the new Phantom range for 2019, with the Master Craftsman claiming it as the brand's most technically advanced line to date. It consists of nine new mallet putters in five different head styles, with different options for alignment and shaft bend.
As with most mallet putters, the aim is to increase consistency by raising MOI, which in the Phantom range is done through a multi-material construction with precision milled aliminium faces and 303 stainless steal heads, along with enhanced vibration dampening technology.
Master Craftsman Scotty Cameron said:
Phantom X is by far the most high-tech putter range we've designed to date. The product is so much faster looking, and taken to the next level, that it needed a new name. It's a major leap in performance. We've designed a variety of flange setups, alignment options and shaft bends to offer mallet players more models to choose from.
I was inspired by Tour players who've asked for slightly smaller profiles with more alignment options and solid face construction. The engineering has been ramped up to an entirely new level to bring this brand-new line to life. Phantom X is the ultimate lineup for mallet players.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X Technology
Five New High-Tech, Multi-Material Heads
The Phantom X putters are precision milled, multi-component mallets which are slightly more compact than the previous Futura models, with a design that hugs the turf and angles away from the player to give golfers more confidence at address.
Tour-Preferred Alignment
A range of alignment options are offered by the new range, including continuous lines from the leading edge all the way back, simple sight dots, raised or stepped down flanges, and wider or “vanishing” toplines. Longer, racing-inspired lines and yellow sight dots have been used to better frame the ball at address.
Multiple Shaft Bend Options
There should be something for everyone in the Phantom X range as there are three different shaft options - low-bend, mid-bend and straight - on offer. The .5 putters have a shorter, low-bend shaft with more offset to promote more of an arc in the stroke. The 5,6,7,8 and 12 models have taller, mid-bend shafts for a near-face balanced setup to produce less toe flow. The 6 STR has a straight shaft with zero offset.
Solid Face Technology
Each mallet is constructed using a standard-milled, 6061 aircraft aluminium face in black, which extends back through the flange area of each model. This gives the much-desired combination of solid feedback with a soft feel preferred by many players.
New Custom Designed Grip
For the first time Scotty Cameron is introducing a grey Pistolero Plus Grip. This has a thicker, and less tapered right hand section compared to the standard Pistolero, to give the feel of a thinner grip with the benefits of a slightly thicker one.
Phantom X Weighting And Shafts
Each putter has advanced stability weighting with two weights in the heel and toe, and stepless steel shafts.
Finish And Graphics
The Phantom X putters are completed in a misted black finish which helps to reduce sun glare. Scotty's famous three-dot theme is there in the back cavities of the 5, 5.5, 6 and 6 STR models, with a neon yellow paintfill for sight lines.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X Putter Collection
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5 Putter
Tour-proven wingback mallet with a single mid-bend shaft
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5. Putter
Identical in shape to the 5, the 5.5. has a lower shaft bend that provides enhanced toe flow for players seeking stability while still creating an arc in the stroke.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 6 Putter
Face balanced mallet with a single mid-bend shaft provides distinct alignment cues. Customisable sole weights increase MOI and stability through the stroke.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 6 STR Putter
Constructed with zero offset, the STR produces face balanced performance with a clean and minimalist look at address.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 7 Putter
Combines the benefits of long flange sight lines with a semi-traditional top line for easy horizontal and vertical alignment at setup.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 7.5 Putter
Single low-bend shaft created to promote enhanced toe flow with forgiveness.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 8 Putter
Inspired by tour players seeking a putter with simple visual cues and a continuous transition from leading edge through the back flange.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 8.5 Putter
Differing from the 8 only in shaft bend length and increased toe hang, promotes a slightly arced putting stroke.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 12 Putter
Near-face balanced, high MOI mallet with a single-bend shaft is the ultimate in technology, stability and forgiveness.
Available worldwide on April 12th this year, and although the price is yet to be confirmed, the Futura's original RRP of £335 may be a good place to start. Scotty's are always going be premium putters, but the fact that they are so popular both on tour and at local golf clubs prove that they are high-quality products that you can trust to perform. Now it's just a case of deciding which one is for you...
