25% of women playing in the UK & Ireland only tried it for the first time in 2020 and here at Golfalot we think that this can only be a great thing! It also means there is a tonne of new golfers out there learning about golf for the first time.

That being said, we want to help women golfers out with their golf equipment. We know it can get very confusing at times understanding what to equipment to buy, where to buy it from and how to find out which will be the best for you!

So with the help of our main equipment reviewer – Ex-LET Professional Sophie Walker - we’ve put together a number of great reviews of the best women’s golf gear on the market.

If you're looking to learn more about women’s golf equipment and seeking to improve your game by making sure you're using the right equipment, a great place to start would be right here.

Sophie has put together her top ten tips for buying women's golf equipment:

1. IMPROVE YOUR GOLF

You can improve your golf game quite easily by having the right equipment for you. There are certain pieces of technology in women's golf clubs that will help you to hit better golf shots. Simple things like shorter and lighter clubs are a great place to start.

2. HAVE PRIDE IN YOUR EQUIPMENT

Do not think for one second that because you may be new to the game or are a high handicapper, that you are a lost cause and therefore it doesn’t matter what you clubs you play with. All abilities of golfer can improve by having the right equipment for them. Take pride in what you use to play golf!

3. HIT IT FURTHER

Women's golf clubs have lighter shafts which mean you can hit the ball further because the faster you can swing the golf club, the more chance you have of creating a higher club head speed which will lead to more distance. Think about when you lift weights at the gym - the lighter they are, the faster you can move them.

4. HIT IT STRAIGHTER

Women's specific golf clubs have shorter shafts. This is important because the shorter the shaft the more control you have over the club. Think about when you are walking the dog and the lead is short compared to long - you have more control over where the dog is going.

5. GRIP IT AND RIP IT

Grip size makes a huge difference, if the grips on your clubs are too thick then your hands won’t fit around the club properly. This can lead to a few different fundamental problems as it is the only part of the golf club that your body has contact with. Two big problems are that it can cause calluses, as well as your shots easily going off line.

6. EQUIPMENT IS EXPENSIVE - BUT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BOUGHT ALL AT ONCE

A lot of the golf clubs that you will see in the golf market are expensive. They are premium golf clubs and therefore come with a premium price tag which may put off some people who are new to the game. But, don't shy away from investing in the right equipment! Clubs do not have to be bought as a full set - you don't have to buy 14 at once. Take your time, enjoy the process, and just think about buying a few at a time.

7. LET HYBRIDS BE YOUR FRIEND

I love hybrids and so do many other female tour players. I’d recommend to get fewer irons and more hybrids and fairway woods as they are so much easier to sweep off a tee or grass than irons. They will launch the ball higher and further and are much easier to hit. Why not make this incredibly hard game a little easier?

8. CUSTOM FITTING IS IMPORTANT

Don't overlook custom fitting. Women’s clubs are produced to aid the custom fitting process and give custom fitters more options. Remember if you are faster, taller, better, or just generally stronger than the average woman you can go into the men's category of club. Women’s clubs are no worse quality than men's clubs, they are just much better suited to the way women swing the golf club. Custom fitting will help you decide which is best for you.

9. OPEN UP THE CONVERSATION

Don’t be afraid to speak to other women about your golf clubs and what they might be hitting. This way you will learn more about what equipment other golfers are using and how you can learn and improve from that.

10. ENJOY IT

Enjoy the process of buying new golf equipment for YOU! Remember that the reason you’re doing it is ultimately to enjoy the game of golf much more and improve your scores!
