We all know about custom fitting for drivers, but what actually happens when you turn up?

I went to visit the Titleist National Fitting centre and asked our friends at Titleist why we should be fitted for a driver, what goes in it and how we arrange a visit.

If you haven't been through a process such as this then I would encourage you to do so as the results may surprise you. Titleist fitter Graham Noblett said that most people leave with a higher loft on their driver than they expected.

In the UK most people want to hit the ball low to keep it going through the wind. However actually getting a higher launch angle with the right level of spin will in fact give you more distance even into the wind. Sometimes it is a little hard to get your head around, but trust me it is true!

The other major factor is the flex and type of shaft. With over 80 different options it is not always black and white which one is best for you for any given swing speed. It depends on a lot of other factors such as angle of attack and therefore the combination of loft and shaft flex will be different for each player's swing.

If you are going to invest in a new driver, then make sure you get custom fitted for you. It could save you money in the long run and gain you yards!
