Callaway has updated their Jaws wedge for 2022 with a new Raw model, teaming up with legendary wedge designer Roger Cleveland to introduce a four new grinds including a 'Z Grind' which is designed as a 'more forgiving shot maker's wedge'.

The Jaws Raw follows on from the Jaws Full Toe Wedge which Sophie reviewed last year, and joins the likes of TaylorMade and Ping in using a raw face to take spin rates to the next level.

Callaway claim that the new Jaws Raw 'provides innovation and performance in its rawest form', and four new grinds provide 17 different loft and bounce combinations, available in two finishes.

A number of technologies have been incorporated into the Jaws Raw to help maximise levels of spin and control:

  • Razor sharp grooves feature a 37° wall angle to help elevate the sharpness. This is designed to give you that 'one hop and stop' effect with pitches from 80 yards and in.

  • Removing the plating on the face produces a raw finish which will rust over time in the scoring zone, whilst the rest of the clubhead retains its original look. The idea behind this is that it creates a more direct connection between the ball and face at impact, promoting maximum spin.

  • Offset Groove-in-Groove Technology positions the grooves at a 20° angle to encourage more spin on chips, pitches and lob shots.

  • A muted toe pad on the face is designed to reduce glare at address.

A new weight balanced design sees the addition of tungsten in a Callaway wedge for the first time, on both the sand and lob wedges, to centre the CG for improved control and feel. The hosel also varies in length depending on the loft of the club, helping to control trajectory while enhancing forgiveness.

The Z-Grind is a more forgiving low bounce option, with an aggressive leading edge 'chamfer' to improve turf interaction. This acts like a skid plate to stop you from digging the club into the ground on chips and pitches.

The Jaws Raw is also available in S (Standard), W (Wide Sole), and X (High Bounce) grinds, providing the 17 loft/combinations per finish.

The wedge is available in either a Raw Face Chrome or un-plated Raw Black Plasma finish, and will be available at retail from 22nd July at an RRP of £179.
