10 years after Callaway first brought their Apex irons to market, the brand have revealed the biggest change to the iron lineup to date with the new Apex Ai200 and Ai300 irons, along with another special release in the form of the ultra-premium Apex Ti Fusion.
This is essentially a 'concept' iron, which has allowed Callaway to try new technologies and pull out all the stops when it comes to the components used and the quality of the finish.
Whilst these premium concept irons are usually aimed at the game-improvement market, the new Apex Ti Fusion is actually more suitable to better players and would sit below the Apex Ai200 irons in the range.
The name Ti Fusion comes from the fact that the irons have incorporated titanium into the face, combined with a forged feel of steel, which promotes deflection and ball speeds. Titanium is the same material used in driver faces, and is more efficient whilst producing a larger sweet spot in an iron than steel would.
This titanium interacts with Callaway's urethane microspheres which we have seen for a few years now, to provide a great feel which is more akin to a forged irons.
The Ai Smart face is said to produce more consistent ball speeds, spin and dispersion across the face, combining the kind of feel and consistency that you'd see in a muscleback, along with the distance and ball speed of a two-piece cavity back iron.
The Ti Fusion comes with a new, premium Diamond-Like Coating (DLC) finish, which is more durable than PVD to provide a striking and high-quality look in the bag and down by the ball.
Available from 23rd August, the new Apex Ti Fusion irons are priced at £1999 for a seven-piece set.
