The PGA Merchandise show in Orlando is where the great and the good of the golf industry from around the world come together to do business. The massive room at the convention centre takes a good 20 minutes to get from one end to the other and it is crammed with stands from all of the manufacturers in golf.

The demo day before the show gives you the chance to try out products from leading brands and our scratch review team have already posted reviews on the newest products that were seen for the first time.

These include the Mizuno MP-650 driver, Mizunno MP-650 fairway and Mizuno MP-650 hybrid, Ping Sydney putter, TaylorMade Ghost Manta putter and the much hyped TaylorMade RocketBallz Fairway.

There were some other products so new that they have not been released and I can't wait to tell you about them soon.

But what of the world outside of the big brands? I love wondering the aisles of the show looking at the budding entrepreneurs pushing their latest greatest product, theory, practice aid or game changing invention.

Some make you smile, some make you wince, some you wish you had thought of it first and some you hope your non-golfing relatives don't find out about so they won't shove one in your Christmas stocking.

However, we salute their enthusiasm and admire their determination to make their dreams come true in the world of golf. So, in no-particular order, here are the year's contenders for the 2012 Golfalot Alternative Product of the PGA Merchandise Show Award.
