Golf Course Says Founded in 1873, West Lancashire Golf Club is the oldest golf club surviving in the county of Lancashire and is among the top ten oldest golf clubs in England. The club was founded by members of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club and some became members of both clubs. In 1885 the Royal Liverpool Golf Club organised a Grand Tournament for amateurs which became, in 1886, The Amateur Championship. West Lancashire Golf Club was one of twenty four clubs that contributed to the cost of the trophy which bears their names. The first winner was Alan MacFie who was also a member of West Lancashire. The links are in fantastic condition all year round. The White Tees, measuring 6772 yards, provide a course which is a fair test of golf. If you enjoy a challenge and wish to play some classic links golf on one of the top ten oldest courses in England why not try West Lancashire Golf Club.

Media Reviews Where2Golf.comIn an expansive area of coastal sand dunes bounded by the sea and the Liverpool - Preston railway line, the West Lancashire gofl course provides further reinforcement for Lancashire's reputation as having the best concentration of links golf in England. As links courses go, West Lancashire is a gem. Many elevated tees give you clear views onto the sea, as well as providing a good reconnaissance of the holes ahead. The layout comprises two nine-hole loops played out-and-back from the clubhouse in a very natural setting; just the coastal walkway, a few seagulls and an occasional train to keep you company. The front nine plays closest to the sea and is bounded by some wonderful dunes. The back-nine initially tracks alongside the railway before it embarks on a tricky 4-hole loop starting at the 12th - these holes will determine if you eventually have a score to remember or forget. The 14th and 15th in particular are potential card-wreckers, especially on a first outing. Many of the greens are tightly surrounded by deep rough rather than deep-bunkering, so its often better to play short and run the ball up, than play long and risk the deep grass.

Unreal! This land could be nothing else. Greens 10/10, Course 10/10! Highly recommended with some unbelievable holes on the back 9, especially 14 - a great par 4 dog leg left. A superb golf hole . You will not be disapointed and will want to play another 18 immediately!
