Golf Course Says
The Wentworth East course was the first of Wentworth's three courses to open designed by the master craftsman Harry Colt. The course hosted the debut of the Curtis Cup in 1932 and was the venue when a group of American and British golfers met up in friendly contest in 1926: the game that would lead directly to the event that today enthralls millions around the world under the guise of the Ryder Cup. Today, of course, the East course is placed in the looming shadow of Wentworth West one of the most treasured courses in Britain. Those that have played the East course will, however, be quick to point out that this is a gem of a course and one that should never be overlooked.
The Wentworth East course is shorter than the west and as its fairways zoom in and out of the woodland it is hard not to feel that here is a course where the golfer can enjoy the shelter and tranquility of the golf course in all its glory. Take care - Colt valued accuracy and he ensured his greens were well protected and required great precision. Short it may be but Wentworth East is no pushover. Five par three's are the hallmark of a course that former Ryder Cup captain and European golf stalwart Bernard Gallacher, for so long a distinguished ambassador of Wentworth, consider to be a better designed and better looking course than the West.
