Golf Course Says
A golf course designed by James Braid and given the Bernard Darwin seal of approval has a great lineage to live up to and Welshpool Golf Club does not disappoint. Braid designed the course at the behest of John Stutt, a Scot who wanted to build a course like Gleneagles in Wales. When Darwin, the foremost golf writer of his, or any other, day, saw the course he described it as a course of his golfing dreams. Today the course is still a stern challenge - although many visitors will find they forget the bad numbers on their scorecards as they soak up the views of the mountains that provide a dramatic backdrop to the course. Stutt more than realised his ambition and many would argue that Welshpool Golf Club is a far more dramatic theatre of golf than the Perthshire course that inspired it.
