Golf Course Says
Old Tom Morris designed Warworth Golf Club and the course opened in 1891. The course is a typical links course of nine holes although 18 tees mean that no hole is quite the same the second time around. At just under 6000 yards the course is short but the clever design of the holes mean that course management and concentration are all important throughout your round.
Golfalot Review of Warkworth Golf Club
We played Warkworth Golf Club on the kind of damp, miserable day that you can imagine Old Tom Morris would instantly feel at home in. The weather didn't stop us enjoying a fine challenge on a nice course. The downhill first hole is a par three and you then play the second along the foot of the hill (with the dunes providing a constant worry to your right) before playing back up the steep slope to continue along the cliff top. Even through the drizzle the views out to sea and along the coast were spectacular and a constant reminder that the wind was going to come in to play on almost every shot. The par 4 third, a severe dogleg with a blind tee shot back up the hill is, a real feature and the sort of hole where par or birdie leaves you fully satisfied. For a taste of an old fashioned links course Warkworth can provide a very pleasant few hours and is much more accessible for most golfers than that other 1891 creation of Old Tom's: Muirfield. When we played the clubhouse wasn't staffed and an honesty box was in operation but there are more than enough places in the village of Warkworth itself for the golfer to find sustenance.

A nice nine hole links with the additional tees providing enough interest to keep you going through the second nine. The wind, as you would expect, was pretty constant but that added to the fun and the challenge. Greens were passable and the rest of the course was in good condition. There are better courses in the area but for value for money, friendliness and accessibility you can do a lot worse than Warkworth Golf Course.
