Golf Course Says
Founded in 1907 and close to Loch Lomond in Alexandria, Vale of Leven Golf Club is an excellent 18 hole championship parkland course that offers views of both the Loch and the surround mountains including the famous and imposing Ben Lomond. In its early days Vale of Leven was a nine hole course and a disused railway carriage served as the clubhouse. Thankfully times have moved on and today the course is made up of 18 holes that were originally opened in the 1920's and reopened after some of the holes were given over to agriculture during the Second World War.
Eric Brown, one of Scotland's most impressive Ryder Cuppers, holds the professional record for the course - a 63 that remains unbeaten to this day. Today the clubhouse is a much more comfortable affair and is available for function hire. Look out for the short 12th hole - father and son Joe and Gordon McCaffrey both aced this hole on the same day!
