Golf Course Says
The Vale Hotel Golf Resort and Spa Wales National Course was opened by the much decorated Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave in 2003 and has already established itself as one of the best inland courses in the UK, hosting Europro, Challenge and Senior Tour events. The course measures over 7400 yards off the championship tees making it one of the lengthiest courses outside the United States. The 2nd hole is the longest in Wales, the 16th has been voted as one the ten best par 4s in the UK and all these features combine to make Wales National at Vale Hotel a fantastic golfing spot.

Where2Golf.comIf Vale's Lake Course is short and compact, then the Wales National can only be described as long and expansive. At 7,400 yards from the tips it will give your long-irons a good workout and your legs a good stretch. The views over the Glamorgan countryside are stunning, and the on-course visual delights include several water features, shrub and flower beds, well shaped earth mounding, substantial bunkering, fast heavily-contoured greens, open and linksy holes as well as some wooded holes (breath-in at the very tight par-5 2nd). There are also some chunky celtic stones sprinkled around some of the greens to form an excellent viewing amphitheatre for spectators. Some may call this golf course a feast (we'd agree with them) others a monster (a Welsh dragon !?) - but what's clear is that Wales National provides terrific value and a most challenging round - whatever your handicap.
Todays GolferAn amazing course but really, properly hard. Will test every part of your game. Be prepared to face the toughest of tests. Facilities are top notch.

I recently played on the National Course at the Vale of Glamorgan. On arrival we were told that the greens on holes 1 to 9 had been hollow tyned. We were also told holes 10 to18 had not been hollow tyned and would not be worked on that day. On playing the course and arriving at the tenth hole we were surprised to find that the greenkeepers were in fact hollow tyning the 10, 11, and 12 hole, these holes we had to bypass, so in fact we played 15 holes of golf only 6 of those holes were perfectly playable. For this we were charged £35 each plus the cost of a buggy at £10 each making a total of £90. I do not think this is value for money, in fact I think the Vale was only interested in getting as much money out of people as they could regardless of conditions. It is for this reason that I will not visit the Vale again nor recommend it to others.
