Golf Course Says
Tralee Golf Club is situated on the rugged Atlantic coast of Ireland’s south west. The Arnold Palmer designed course offers a unique combination of traditional seaside golf links and world famous scenery. Tralee Golf Course was the first European golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and opened in October 1984. When he first saw the area upon which his company was to build Tralee golf links, he was ecstatic about the possibilities. "I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course" he said. "I designed the first nine but surely God designed the back nine"

The links features towering dunes, undulating fairways, punishing rough and cliff top tees and greens. View the white sandy beaches and the ocean waves breaking across the rocks against a backdrop of the majestic Slieve Mish mountain range running along the Dingle peninsula to the West.

I played 5 courses in Ireland in 5 days including Ballybunion and Lahinch, but Tralee was my favourite. Perhaps being built in 1984 takes away the historic appeal of the course, but it takes nothing away from the design and location. Standing outside the clubhouse, you see the entire course out in front of you, sitting on the edge of the coast. The front nine takes you back and forth from the coast and offers you a friendly welcome to the course with stunning backdrops. Relatively flat, with some bumps, the front is highlighted by holes 2, 3, and 8. After stopping in the clubhouse for a quick sandwich, you could be forgiven for looking forward to another gentle stroll around the back nine. However, the back nine takes you on a whirlwind tour of the hills and dunes. Each hole gets better and better and the views and scenary are just breathtaking. Each tee you stand on makes you take a deep breath, followed by simply soaking up the location of the course. Get this course on a good day and holes 12 through 18 will forever live in your memory. If you are in Ireland, don't miss out on this gem.
