Golf Course Says
Making the most of the superb land that he was given to work with, the renowned golf course architect, Rees Jones sculpted 18 contoured holes into the beautiful country site creating the Oxfordshire Golf Course. Combining the best of American parkland design with the traditions of the best of British courses has resulted in a dramatic and challenging course that offers the player both the potential for drama as well as a truly fair test of golf. Reflecting his philosophy of fairness each par three and par five plays in different directions to equalize the effects of the wind on any given day and the number of top professional events that have been held at the venue are testimony to the success of the design.

The Oxfordshire golf course is a very modern design but it has some classic holes. The first is a gentle par-4 down the hill, but thereafter it gets tougher with 2 and 3 being excellent and the par-5 4th has a huge waste area/bunkers in the middle of the fairway, forcing you to lay up. The 8th is a classic short par-4 card wrecker around the lake. The 9th, like the 18th, is one of the weaker holes. Just a slog up the hill to the clubhouse. On the back nine 11, the par-3 13 and 17 really stand out. The par-5s on the course are pretty generous apart from the famous 17th with it's double fairway either side of the lake and a tiny sloping green. You have to make a decision on when to cross the water and hope you have picked the right club as judging the distance is tough. Prepare for wind as it is the highest point in the surrounding area. However the magnificent clubhouse at the Oxfordshire with its huge Japanese communal bath more than makes up for this.
