Golf Course Says
The links at Tenby Golf Club opened in 1875 making it the oldest affiliated golf club in Wales. Today the course is still a regular and welcome fixture on Welsh Amateur rota the course makes the most of its tight fairways and quick putting surfaces to offer a real challenge to all golfers. With the course running along by side the sea the elements, as links golf enthusiasts would expect, can have a real bearing on scorecards when the wind starts to weave its merry magic. Winning Ryder Cup captain and Welsh golfing legend was so enthralled by the James Braid designed Tenby Golf Club that the third hole was called after him. Visitors are welcome to enjoy this clasic golfing challenge.
Tenby Golf Course is a classic links course measuring 6,337 yards off the championship tees, it has hosted many international championships for men and ladies. Whilst it is considered short by modern standards the narrow sloping fairways together with blind tee shots, second shots to sloping fast greens and punishing rough easily compensate for this
Tenby is links golf with plenty of bumps and hollows, excellent greens and sizeable sand dunes. There are many challenging holes and no end of marker posts to help you navigate several blind drives and approach shots. The course stretches from the town of Tenby, goes out to the neighbouring village of Penhally and then back again to Tenby. Perhaps this is not the most beautiful of links courses, although there are some fine views over a rugged coast. What is clear, is the more you play Tenby, the more you’ll appreciate its many qualities.
Wales is best know for its links golf and Tenby is among the best of them. Delightful but quirky. Definitely shouldn't be underestimated - and that's on a nice, warm, windless day!
