Golf Course Says
Swanston Golf Club lies on the slopes of the Pentland Hills just south of Edinburgh's historic city centre. Major redevelopment work has seen the opening of a new clubhouse with excellent bar and restaurant facilities and the creation of six new holes to replace six of the original holes and to make the course a much easier walk. The course is very much a local one and the new clubhouse has become a focal point for the local community. The addition of a nine hole par 3 Templar course in 2008 has made Swanston a real family destination. Swanston is at the heart of the local golfing community and extends a warm welcome to all visitors.

Swanston golf club is one of the hillier courses around and has great views of Ediburgh. Although there are a lot of side-hill approach shots, the new holes being built promise some flatter golf and there are a couple of very good par-3s at 5 and 8. The new clubhouse offers great facilities and is a very popular place for post round refreshments.

Swanston is going through major redevelopment at the moment with a new £1m clubhouse opening in August 2007 and 7 new holes opening for play during 2008. The comments about Swanston golf course in the past may have been valid then, but certainly won’t be in years to come.
The current 18 holes are in play until mid 2008, but with extra green-keeping staff and investment they are playing as well as they have for decades. Swanston may never be a Dalmahoy or Craigielaw, but it will always be a great club and welcoming venue for a good day out.
Along with the improvements to main 18 hole course, a 9 hole short-course (85 to 150 yds) is being built on the lower ground with full USGA spec greens, ponds, streams and other features with the aim of making it an enjoyable course for all the family.
A 350yd driving range and 3 full-spec practice greens will also open in 2008.
The investment into the 80 year-old Swanston golf course is intended to not only bring it up to date, but to set it up as a strong members club for the next 80 years.
