Golf Course Says
Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Club is situated in the heart of West Cork, a very beautiful part of Cork county. There are lovely views over the surrounding countryside - from the 12th hole you can see Skibbereen town to the east, to the south the wooded hills around the unique salt water lake of Lough Hyne, to the west the harbour at Baltimore. Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Club has a close proximity to the sea and the Gulf Stream this area enjoys a mild climate and the course is playable all year round. Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Club was founded in 1905 in Castlelands. It was affiliated to the Golfing Union of Ireland in 1931. The Club moved to its present location at Licknavar in 1932 with the opening of a 9-hole course - this has become known as "The Old 9" as in 1992 another 9-holes were added, known as "The New 9". "The challenge is to get through what some members have called Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Course's "Amen Corner" with your score intact!....these are holes 10 to 13 which have a habit of jumping up and biting you!
Media Reviews
GreenFreeSkibbereen & West Carbery Golf Course offers a varied test for all golfers, longer holes on the old nine, and shorter but much tighter holes on the new nine. Notable holes include the tough opener, the 8th, 12th and challenging 17th, an excellent par 3.
