Rutherford Castle Golf Club is only a 15 minute drive south of the Edinburgh bypass. The course is a mature parkland with plenty of water hazards and is a real challenge for even the best golfers. Thankfully the idyllic setting and the high quality of the course means that golfer of all abilities can enjoy a thoroughly memorable round at Rutherford Castle Golf Course.

Beautifully situated beneath the rolling Pentland Hills, Rutherford Castle started out as a labour of love for a local farmer. Unfortunately when he died his vision didn't quite resonate to the same degree with his family, who then promptly sold it to a local house builder who may develop the course in the future. This is a long course with some backwards and forward-type holes, but its beauty lies in its quietness, especially in the warm and light summer evenings, when it's best to go, as the course turns into a bog during the rains of the spring and autumn. I was pleased to note that the last time I played, in July 2006, that there had been much improvement in the boggy fairways, though there appeared to be an over-enthusiastic Greenkeeper who burnt most of the greens by over-fertilising them.
