Golf Course Says
Over a century old and still renowned across the globe as one of the best examples of links golf Royal St Davids Golf Club is one of the most awe inspiring places to play golf in the UK. The long list of professional who return to the club time and again are proof of just how fine a course Royal St Davids is. So impressed by the links was Bob Charles, Open winner and the first left hander to win a major, has called it one of his favourite links courses. For many golfers, from the great James Braid who won a tournament here back in 1903 to Sam Torrance who said simply "I loved the course," a visit to Royal St Davids Golf Club is an experience that simply cannot be missed.
Media Reviews
Where2Golf.comUnder the towers and ramparts of splendid Harlech Castle, Royal St Davids stands tall as one of the great links courses of Wales. The front nine is played on flat terrain, tucked in behind large sand dunes that provide some degree of protection from the wind. Hazards and pitfalls are generally visible from the tee (as are wonderful views across to the mountains of Snowdonia). Well-positioned bunkering, water ditches and deep rough will all need to be factored into your course management. The long par-3 14th gets you in amongst the dunes and, many would say, into the most interesting part of the course. Climb the steps at the 16th tee, and you'll get a glimpse of Tremadog Bay beyond the dunes. Golfing aficionados from Bernard Darwin to Bernard Gallacher have described Harlech as one of the world's great golfing treasures, as well as being the toughest par-69 (SSS of 73 from the tips). Royal St David's is in very good company with its "patron-saint" English and Scottish counter-parts - Royal St George's and St Andrews. Like these other venerable courses, it is a must-play treat for lovers of links golf.
