The Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club has two fine 18 hole courses designed by the great J H Taylor, five times Open Champion and Club Professional for 47 years. The Outer Course is the scene for the famous Antlers Open Competition for Amateur Foursomes Medal play. The course enjoys the benefit of an irrigation system installed in 1997 which waters all fairways and aprons as well as putting greens and teeing grounds.

Golfalot Review of Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club Outer
The Outer Couse at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club is an excellent layout over relatively flat terrain in a classic berkshire heathland setting. You look at the par of 69/SSS 71 on a shortish layout and you think this should be a pushover, but once you are on the course you find out why it is rated so tough. The fairways are narrow and tree lined and any wayward shot is punished with a shot dropped or a lost ball. The par-3s are the key to the course and they are all good. The par-5s are generally fairly short and reachable in two if you find the fairway. The new clubhouse is a modern design that has managed to retain the high class feel appropriate for the club and is an excellent venue for post-round refreshment.

I played the Outer course at Royal Mid-Surrey in July 06 and everything about the course was excellent, apart from the greens which were slow and bumpy. Apparently there are in the middle of a greens renovation program to improve the surfaces so check before you go as to the condition of them. Otherwise it is an excellent layout with narrow tree lined fairways and some fairly nasty rough, which Royal Mid-Surrey are thankfully thinning out. Fantastic clubhouse too, but have to mark it down for the greens I am afraid.
